How to Plan a Day of History in Antalya
The Antalya region is home to one of the densest clusters of ancient cities in the Mediterranean. Perge, Aspendos, Side and Termessos are all close to one another, but trying to fit them into a single day is exhausting. The most enjoyable plan is one ancient city early in the morning and a natural spot where you can cool off in the afternoon.
In summer the midday temperature can exceed 35 °C. Ancient cities offer no shade; 08:00–10:30 and 16:30–sunset are far better both for the temperature and for photographic light.
What to bring
- At least 1.5 litres of water — most ancient sites have no shop
- A hat, sunglasses and high-factor sun cream
- Closed shoes with non-slip soles — the stones are uneven and slippery
- Cash — some ticket offices may not accept cards
Three rules for respectful travel
- Do not climb on the ruins or lean against the columns.
- Do not take any stone, pottery fragment or plant specimen — it is prohibited.
- Stay on the marked paths; excavation areas can contain hidden cavities.
